NABO will be hosting a special Bertsolari Tribute on March 14, 2020.
The event will be held at the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center.

IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY – JULY 2020  

What is Ateak Ireki?

Ateak Ireki means “open doors” in the Basque language, Euskara. The Ateak Ireki three week program is an opportunity for young people from the Basque diaspora in the United States to live, learn and experience real life in the Basque Country today. 

NABO is excited to collaborate with this three-week immersion in Basque Culture in the Basque Country program, Ateak Ireki.  The program is aimed at youth in our Basque American communities ages 16-25 to continue their engagement with our culture after they are no longer able to participate in Udaleku. The Ateak Ireki program dates in 2020 are from June 29th to July 19th. GAUDEN BAT REVERSE DRAWING

The Gauden Bat will be holding their annual Reverse Drawing at the Chino Basque Club
on Saturday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased from a member of the Gauden Bat
or contact Jeanette Duhart at kakkles@aol.com.
Cost is $60 for dinner and a chance to win $6,000.

CBC NABO MUS TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to John Plaa and Andréa Bidart-Oteiza, First Place Winners.
Second Place winners:  Pedro Marizcurrena and Paco Seminario.
Both teams will represent Chino Basque Club in Homedale, Idaho this May.

JUNIOR MUS TOURNAMENT, FEBRUARY 25, 2018

Young mus players, be prepared to play on Sunday, February 25 after lunch.

Everyone up to the age of 17 is welcome.  Play for First and Second Place trophies.

Festivities will begin at 4 p.m.
  • Mitch Gariador will present his website, www.bridge2pyrenees.org. and its importance in our own ancestry.
  • Jeanette Bidart and Marianna Etcheverria will discuss the interviews they have/are conducting.  See an excerpt from a prominent member.
  • Gauden Bat will be dancingto the music of NOKA.
 

All this after a wonderful dinner, a sing-a-long during dinner
and ending with music for all to dance.

GAZTEMUNDU

The Counsel of the Basque Government has funding for a “Gaztemundu Program.” This year the program will be open to dance instructors.  Any individual interested must be between the ages of 18 and 34 and they must also be a member of a Basque Club.  Although we don’t know at this point when this will take place, it is always in the Basque Country.  The flights, room and board are covered for the two-week period. BEGIZ BEGI

A popular musical group from Lapurdi will be performing at the Chino Basque Club on Sunday, July 19.  Their performance will be after lunch which will be served at 12 noon.  The group is well known in the Basque Country; they play traditional Basque songs as well as pop.  Lunch will barbecued lamb and “txilindron” at $25 for adults/$10 for children under 12.

CBC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE

Chino Basque Club scholarships are available to students attending four-year colleges and whose parents are CBC members.  The deadline to submit the application is July 15.  Please contact Begoña Echeverria at b.echeverria@ucr.edu for more information.

BREAST CANCER WALK AND FUNDRAISER

The Chino Basque Club is sponsoring a breast cancer walk in Chino on October 3, 2015.  The route will be a maximum 10 miles (beginning and ending at the Club) with the entry fee for the walk at $100.   Entry fee includes t-shirt and scarf.  There will also be a dinner  at the Club that evening ($50 per person).  All net proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research.  Attention all mus players: the doors (and bar) to the Club will be open by 2 pm.  Join us to walk,  drink and/or eat and help fund the cure!

Immigrants from 1961-65

A total of 39 immigrants were highlighted in the video presentation on June 27 at the Chino Basque Club.  These are the people who came to this country and gave the rest of us the Best of Both Worlds.  The Club was happy to honor them.

Centro Basco will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary; 45 years for the Berterretche Family.  A “méchoui” will be held on the handball court the Saturday night before Labor Day (Sep 5) and a slideshow will be presented as well.  Send any old photos of the Hotel you may have to Kathie Goyeneche at k.g.8081@me.com or to Marianna Etcheverria at metcheverria@verizon.net.

Club Lunch in September will be 1980’s theme to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Chino Basque Club.  Stay tuned.
