The Gauden Bat is the adult dance group in the southern California area and has been a unifying force in maintaining the cultural awareness for many young Basques.  The group has also been the basis for life-long friendships throughout the years.

The repertoire varies as the group develops dances from various parts of the Basque country.  The group consists of about twenty young adults, and they not only perform at the two Basque picnics in the area but at various venues when asked.

Although the adult Basque Dance Group has been around since 1932, the name Gauden Bat came into being in 1969.  At the time the group was led by Jean Louis Cihigoyenetche.  Gauden Bat means “Let us be one.” Learn more about the dance groups’ history by viewing the video Southern California Basque Dance in Things to Watch.
