UDALEKU 2026: LEARN MORE
The Chino Basque Club and the Southern CA Basque Club will be managing Udaleku 2026 (June 21st through July 5th). This is a NABO-sponsored program for children ages 10 to 15. While this program provides classes in music, dance, handball, and culture, more than anything, it provides a venue for our young Basques to make life-long friendships with others from all around the United States. The organizers are currently seeking volunteers and donations, but more importantly, they need a commitment for housing the students. The average total of participants is around 100. Let us know if you can help by sending an email to info@chinobasqueclub.com. More information will follow in the newsletters.

NEW TESTAMENT IN BASQUE FOUND
Begona Echeverria conducted research in the “cathedral of libraries,” Oxford University’s Bodleian. Among its treasures is one of the rarest books in the world, a Basque New Testament published in 1571 by Joannes Leizarraga (‘Oxford, Bodleian Libraries, 8° T 6 Th.Seld.’) Commissioned by the Protestant Queen of Navarre, Jeanne d’Albret, it is one of few books that uses “noka,” the second person pronoun used with a female addressee. Above are images of the New Testament, including the passage where the Angel Gabriel tells the Virgin Mary: “Blessed Art Thou Among Women.”
