SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER for

BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

Over 60 supporters walked the 7.2 mile course in Chino on October 3, 2015.
Our community should be very proud of their efforts.  Over 60 walkers gathered for the walk in the morning, and 150 people were served paella and steak dinner that night. A special thank you to the kitchen & bar crew for all the work and talent they provided. The evening included a candlelight memorial, a video of the walk and music (provided by the Lucky Lonely).  Denis Petrissans & Johnny Plaa won the mus tournament, Colette Aldaco won the fleur de lis stained glass, Taylor Seeley won the 50/50 raffle and Marie Ahadoberry won the Ferragamo purse. This special evening made a net profit $37,000 for breast cancer research. The committee, headed by Anne Marie Gariador, was overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity.  A heart-felt thank you to all who supported this worthy cause.

DID YOU KNOW?
One of your Boardmembers, Louise Camou, actually walked the El Camino de Santiago, the Christian pilgrimage in Spain. Yes, that’s  500 miles and she did in 27 days.  Since the 10th Century, pilgrims have walked to the shrine of the Apostle St. James at Santiago de Compostela.   Ask her about her adventure at the next Club lunch.
…that it was Albert Goyenetche’s birthday?

CBC Celebrates 80 Years of Basque Dancing

Our May fundraiser will be held on Saturday night, May 16th at 6 p.m.  Join us for dinner and then watch a video to see how Basque dancing has progressed through the years in the Chino area.  Our area has been blessed with dancers and musicians who have always strived to improve the dances and costumes of their predecessors.  You will see that progression from the 1930’s to today.

Culinary Tour of the Basque Regions’ Food & Wine

A featured tour in the LA Times Travel Section, International Culinary Tours is offering a 10 day/9 night tour starting in San Sebastian, Spain.  The tour will begin at the Central Market followed by a cooking class in a private club.  Other highlights include visits to local markets, a second cooking class in a seafood restaurant, a “pintxos” tapas walking tour of San Sebastian and a visit to the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.  The tour concludes with two nights in the Navarre and La Rioja regions visiting some of Spain’s wineries.  Dates:  Sep 11-20.   Price  is $4,155 per person, double occupancy.  Sign up before May 31 to save $200.  Contact: Cindy Stephan at 1-800-341-8687.  www.internationalculinarytours.com

Immigrants 1961-65

If you immigrated from the Basque Country between  the years 1961-65 or know someone who did, please speak to Marianna Etcheverria at the next Club event or phone her at (951) 218-1978.

She is preparing the presentation to honor those who immigrated at the June Club dinner.

Mark your Calendars for July

A musical group known as “Begis Begi” (Eye to Eye) from Lapurdi will be performing at a newly scheduled Club lunch on Sunday, July 19.  The group plays traditional Basque music as well as pop/rock.

IMMIGRANTS TO BE HONORED AT DINNER

Those  who came to the United States between the years 1961 and 1965 will be celebrated at the fundraiser on Saturday, June 27 beginning at 6 p.m.    A video will be shown after dinner to pay tribute to all of those who came and gave us the best of both worlds.

CBC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE

Chino Basque Club scholarships are available to students attending four-year colleges whose parents are CBC members.  The deadline to submit the application is July 15.  Please contact Begoña Echeverria at b.echeverria@ucr.edu for more information.

GAUDEN BAT REMINISCES

It was quite the celebration of music and dance at the Chino Basque Club fundraiser in May.  Memories were revived of dancers and musicians of yesteryear from the 1930's to present day.  All are in agreement that to be a part of the dance groups is not only to learn  the dances but more importantly to make lifelong and lasting friendships.  The evening culminated with a "dance-off" between former and current dancers.

BEGIS BEGI TO PERFORM AT CBC

A musical group from the Lapurdi area of the Basque Country will be performing on Sunday, July 19 after lunch at the Club.  They  will also be performing in San Francisco on Friday, July 17.  Don't miss out on the fun.  The group is  well known in the Basque Country.

Want an ad in the Picnic Booklet?

Want to remember a loved one?  Show appreciation to the Club or anyone else? Honor your family? Please contact Kathie Goyeneche at k.g.8081@me.com or  phone her at  (909) 721-4879 for more information.
