JANUARY CLUB LUNCH CANCELED

Southern California is in the midst of a rapid upswing in COVID cases from the Omicron variant, with adults ages 18 to 49 transmitting the virus at a high rate. Officials are urging the public to curtail group gatherings to help slow the surge.

With that in mind, the Chino Basque Club Board has decided to cancel the January luncheon originally scheduled for Sunday, January 23rd.

As much as we have all enjoyed gathering the past three (3) months, the Board feels it is best to err on the side of caution.  We will hopefully be able to start our monthly luncheons sooner than later!  In the meantime do STAY SAFE!

BERT APHESSETCHE RETIRES FROM THE BOARD

Thank you, Bert Aphessetche, for your many years of service to the Chino Basque Club!  Bert has been a member since 1976, has served on the Board many times and has been President a time or two.  Bert was last elected to the board in 2020 and last November we were sad to hear him say that it was time he retired.  Bert was instrumental in making sure our Club house was built and brought a sense of history to every meeting.  We miss having you at our meetings, Bert, but we know we will continue to see you at all of our functions.  A huge THANK YOU!

SUCCESSFUL MUS TOURNAMENT HELD AT THE CBC IN JULY

Mus Chairperson, JP Iriart, put together a well-organized and successful tournament on Saturday, July 17. The tournament was closed to members only; nevertheless we had 11 teams playing. New member, John Oxarart and his wife Sue prepared a delicious barbecued steak and chicken sandwich lunch.

It was our first event at the Club in 17 months and a great effort was made by the Board and our membership to get the Club open again. Between players and those volunteering we had 30 for lunch.

The first place winners, Tino Elicegui and Miguel Osaba, will be playing at a regional tournament in California yet to be determined by NABO. The winners from 2020 (1st Place winners Manolo Villanueva & Tony Vitoria and 2nd Place winners JP & Loli Dalia) will also be playing in the regional tournament representing the Chino Basque Club.

The finals for 2020 and 2021 will be held in Chile in April of 2022.
