Both mass and Besta Berri were celebrated by Father Antton Egiguren Iraola from Boise, Idaho. Mass was followed by a steak barbecue lunch. Entertainment was provided by the Chino dance groups and klika, followed by a lamb barbecue dinner and public dancing to Holakiki–a group from the Basque Country. This picnic had it all–even a heavy down-pour of rain followed by sunshine and cooler weather.
Thank you to all the dance instructors (Jeanette Duhart, Angela Arrosagaray, Annette Indaburu, Maite Maisterrena, Aline Anema, Bernadette Iturriria and Michelle Jaureguy) for the time and effort you give to our young dancers. And thank you Hannah Isom and Christian Jaureguy for making us so proud every time we watch the Gauden Bat dance.

1st Place: Tony Campos
2nd Place: Nicholas Quincey
3rd Place: Nancy Petrissans
4th Place: Tom Mullen
5th Place: Marianna Etcheverria

Udaleku in Southern California was a tremendous success. The collaboration of the So California Basque Club, the Chino Basque Club, the Gauden Bat and the Chino Fair Association made it possible to host 112 participants, aides and instructors. These children not only learned dances, songs, txistu
and tips on capturing family history; they also visited
the beach, Los Angeles and Disneyland.
An incredible number of people gave of themselves to house, feed and transport all the participants. Sincere appreciation goes out to everyone involved and most especially to Jeanette Duhart, Tina Almirantearena, Aline Anema and
Maite Maisterrena who organized the two-week event.

We will have Basque children from Pennsylvania, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Canada, the Basque Country and throughout the state of California here beginning June 25 through July 7. Many of our community have opened up their homes to these youngsters who will learn cultural dances, songs and history but more importantly they will get to know each other and make lifelong friendships.
We have volunteers who will help drive, prepare meals and
chaperone these children to several points of interest.
Please know that it is NEVER too late to volunteer. Contact: Maite Maisterrena at (909) 240-5159
